This piece relates dysthymia to the plant kudzu. Dysthymia is mild but long-term form of depression, where one can go days and weeks feeling ok before the melancholy feelings return. Kudzu is an invasive plant which took over many parts of the artist’s home in the southeastern United States; in spite many efforts, it keeps coming back.

“I’ll show you a smile, but don’t look me in the eyes,
I rather we sit in silence than you chatter on with lies,
We’ve flit back and forth but cannot find a mend,
So turn off the sunlight and let our chorus end.”

It is a freeing feeling only brought on through the help of the outstretched Hand.

This piece is about finding the balance between being yourself and being with loved ones; about letting them in, but not letting them overpower who you are.
